Kent Dunlap, MPH, Sr. Vice President, Stars Behavioral Health Group

Stars is unique because we are a niche provider. We have taken on the challenge of working with some of the most challenging kids in the child welfare and probation systems and have been part of a very exciting evolution in mental health care, supporting children who have been formerly institutionalized and giving them the chance to move them back into community settings and families. Stars has taken the lead in this, as well as blending business discipline with community services. Everything we have done has been by taking an innovative approach.

We are also very heavily involved in advocacy and the state and local level, for mental health and childhood mental issues.

Personally it is very fulfilling, as we can see the effects of our services. This is a company that fits my personal goals. There are challenges, but even that part is beneficial. We are good about recognizing this and helping each other through the challenging times.

There is nothing more important and rewarding than working with these children. We help them become functional again: we turn their lives around.
